Live Design: Can you describe yourself in less than 50 words?

Katrina Puleo: I am a very detailed & organized individual. I am a calculated risk taker, adventurous & goal oriented. I enjoy being a leader as well as a teacher and thrive on my own continued personal growth and sharing those skills with others, watching them use them for their own success.

LD: Please give a brief overview of your training/education/career path.

KP: BA in Theatre & Film, ETCP Arena Rigging Certified since October 2016, CM Pro Tech Certified. I have worked for Universal Studios, on multiple Cirque du Soleil shows, and various rigging companies in a freelance capacity over time (United Staging & Rigging, TAIT Towers, Killswitch Inc etc.).

LD: Please describe your most recent project.

KP: I have been working on a custom permanent Install in another country of a speakeasy space that includes rigging, theatrical lighting, custom audio and all within high level finishes to blend seamlessly into the design of the space (as the project manager). As a rigger I most recently worked on the permanent Install of a custom IMAX space designed for music artists to film special performances.

LD: What are you teaching at LDI and who is your target audience?

KP: I am speaking on a panel regarding motors/hoists* and we will be discussing safety, brake systems, and various other aspects of standards that differ from the United States to European markets.

LD: What has been the biggest challenge of your career to date?

KP: Taking my skills in project management on rigging centric/specific projects and being able to broaden them to manage an entire production with all specialties. For rigging: taking client renderings for a space with many constraints and adapting the rigging elements from design to install to makes the intention come to live safely.

LD: What is your advice for people just getting into the industry?

KP: Never assume you know it all & always keep yourself engaged in various parts of your specialty, so you stay abreast of the latest technology & developments. Complacency ends careers.
