Universal Music Group’s Web3 label 10:22PM, which debuted NFT-based music group KINGSHIP, is taking the next step in expanding the group’s Web3 initiatives through a new virtual key card NFT drop. KINGSHIP is made up of three Bored Ape NFTs and one Mutant Ape NFTs, and UMG added a fifth earlier this year to serve as the group’s manager.
The group has announced that it soon be dropping a collection of 10,000 access enabled NFT key cards, with holders of NFTs from various other collections, including the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Mutant Ape Yacht Club, receiving priority access to mint a key card by registering on a special allowlist.
Minting was initially supposed to begin on the May 14th for allowlist registrants and on May 16th for the general public, but it has been postponed due to the current state of the crypto market, with a new date set to be announced this week.
The collectible key card NFTs will grant owners access to KINGSHIP’s virtual world and allow them to unlock music, products, and experiences. They feature different KINGSHIP members and have unique attributes that will be revealed over time, according to a release.
The group is in the process of building out its virtual world, which will include towers dedicated to each of the band’s members — each member’s key card will provide collectors access to that specific member’s tower, and those who hold key cards for all four members will also be able to access to a floating villa above the towers, “where the magic really happens.” All of this is yet to come, and no further specifics have been announced.
“With KINGSHIP, the impossible is possible,” said Celine Joshua, founder of 10:22PM and the creator of KINGSHIP, in a statement. “These Key Cards not only provide entry to the world of KINGSHIP, they are also an entirely new way to introduce artists and music. They are also a way to serve our superfans with exclusive content, products and token-gated experiences. This is only the beginning of our roadmap for an expansive world that will provide this community with an incredible journey and interactive storytelling.”
