What started as a pandemic-era project has seen Robe Lighting influencer Louise Stickland travel the world interviewing creatives about their challenges and inspirations. In our latest check in with OnLocation we present three recent interviews with women in lighting based in California & Pittsburgh, USA, and Taipei, Taiwan.
Alexandra Lutz-Higgins in Petaluma, California, USA
Time flies – especially when busy being creative – the OnLocation team met up with lighting designer and programmer Alexandra Lutz-Higgins at the end of 2024 in Petaluma California, when she was briefly between tours with Noah Kahan and The Marias … Al is on the road most of the time right now with various music artists, but found time to share her great energy and enthusiasm for life, work, lights and lighting.
Jamie Fadden in Pittsburgh, USA
The OnLocation team went to LD Jamie Fadden’s adopted home of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in fall 2024, just after she had finished Sammy Hagar’s “Best of All Worlds” tour as lighting and video designer. In this lively interview Jamie chats about how she started lighting with Pittsburgh’s thriving club scene, and is now working with a host of great music artists, dealing with a few challenges along the way with characteristic energy, enthusiasm and a huge passion for lighting and the industry.
I-Hua Kao in Taipei, Taiwan
I-Hua Kao is an award-winning lighting designer, author and academic based in Taiwan. She braved a soggy day in Taipei - and two location changes - to meet with the OnLocation team and talk about her route into the industry. This action-packed interview covers her studies at Carnegie Mellon University in the US, lighting across multiple disciplines, organizing a guild of theatrical designers in Taiwan, and sharing her experience as an academic, an author and a respected and innovative lecturer.
