Glyndebourne Summer Festival: Behind The Scenes Of Kát'a Kabanová

This summer, Glyndebourne brings back Káťa Kabanová, one of Leoš Janáček's most personal works, with extraordinary staging by Paolo Fantin.

This production was first produced at the legendary British opera house in 2021 with Fantin's simple but elegant sets using bird cages to symbolize Káťa's inability to escape her torment. In the video below, Paul Brown (head of props and scenic workshop) and Tom Harrison (production manager) explain how they created the iconic bird cage scene.

Creative team:

  • Director Damiano Michieletto
  • Set Designer Paolo Fantin
  • Costume Designer Carla Teti
  • Lighting Designer Alessandro Carletti
