LDI 2025: Meet The Speakers – Mark Heiser

Mark Heiser, owner of Hobnail Consulting, is a theatre professional of over 40 years, principally in senior management positions in performing arts venues at Cal Performances UC Berkeley, the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, and most recently the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

At LDI 2025 he will be speaking in the Behind The Scenes Wellness Lounge – on the topic Exploring Career Expansions/Transitions: Is It Time To Make A Change? – as well as hosting Flash Career Coaching sessions.

MH: Arts administration professional and career consultant.

LD: Please give a brief overview of your training/education/career path.

MH: M.A. Dramatic Art U.C. Irvine. General Manager Cal Performances UC Berkeley, Managing Director David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center, Venue Director Denver Performing Arts Complex.

LD: Please describe your most recent project.

MH: Supervised the installation of the Harlequin "Liberty Switch" system in the Ellie Caulkins Opera Hous

LD: What are you teaching at LDI and who is your target audience?

MH: Exploring Career Expansions/Transitions: Is it time to make a change? Target audience is anyone who is considering a career change, either voluntary or involuntary.

LD: What has been the biggest challenge of your career to date?

MH: I have been very fortunate in my career, though working in the bureaucracy of the City government can be a challenge, from procurement to project management, the various regulations and policies can be cumbersome and confusing. Fortunately, I am now retired!

LD: What is your advice for people just getting into the industry?

MH: Never underestimate the power of face-to-face networking.
