Will Davidson is a senior technical training manager at Audinate. At LDI 2025 he taught two-well attended Dante certification courses and we look forward to having him back to teach again next year.
Live Design: Can you describe yourself in less than 50 words?
Will Davidson: I am is a media professional who loves the AV industry. My career spans stage production, broadcast engineering, and film studios, blending creativity with technical expertise. From community events to major productions, I enjoy building reliable, engaging media systems and now contributes to innovative audio-visual technology at Audinate.
LD: Please give a brief overview of your training/education/career path.
WD: I studied Professional Studies with a minor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at BYU–Idaho. I spent years working hands-on in live sound, broadcast, and film. Now at Audinate, I enjoy helping others feel confident using audio-visual technology and sharing what I’ve learned through real-world experience
LD: Please describe your most recent project.
WD: Recently, I developed a portable AV demo for a trade show that showcased remote management with Dante Director. Using a single-switch setup, I successfully enrolled all Dante devices into a cloud environment and controlled them from his phone via a hotspot — fully remote, simple, and reliable
LD: What are you teaching at LDI and who is your target audience?
WD: These training sessions feature key topics from the Dante 3rd Edition Level 1 and Level 2 Certification courses. Participants learn the fundamentals of Dante networking, including system setup, troubleshooting with Dante Controller, latency management, and cloud-based control using Dante Director. The sessions combine certification-based instruction with real-world demonstrations to build practical confidence in networked audio. Who Should Attend: Ideal for AV professionals, integrators, and technicians seeking to strengthen their Dante skills, prepare for certification, or expand their understanding of on-premises and cloud-based Dante workflows.
LD: What has been the biggest challenge of your career to date?
WD: The biggest challenge in my career has been shifting from traditional point-to-point signal flow to networked audio. I was used to tracing clear physical connections like XLR or MADI, but networking required understanding how data actually moves through the system. Once I learned those underlying concepts, I gained a new appreciation for the flexibility and creativity that networked media makes possible.
LD: What is your advice for people just getting into the industry?
WD: There are many ways to support and enjoy participating in the creation of live performance and media content. Find an area that you love and strive to become an expert in that field.
