Sound Innovator Stanley Miller, 1941–2026

Stanley Miller was known for his pioneering work in live sound reinforcement, including being one of the first to design hanging loudspeakers to get them off the stage, and developing his own high-powered speaker system known as the Stanley Screamers.
He was also known and respected as a touring sound designer and front-of-house engineer for many artists, including Neil Diamond for over 50 years.

 

During Miller's lengthy career he worked with artists including Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Stevie Wonder and The Carpenters. His innovative Stanley Screamers were used by Pink Floyd during The Wall tour, and he worked closely with Yamaha's pro audio division to develop digital consoles including the PM1D and PM5D.

His other contributions to live sound include developing the first touring graphic equalizer with third-octave filters, pioneering the use of multi-core "snakes" for cabling, and using fiberglass coverings for durable road cases. 

Miller received the prestigious Parnelli Audio Innovator Award in 2009.
